GCC vs Lidgate & Ousden

Well, most of the members of the two teams understood that a 1:30pm start meant getting to Spring Lane before 2pm, but not all. And at least the opposition had actually turned up. In any case, a 12 a-side game started somewhat after 2pm on Sunday, August 16th…

Having made a more or less complete recovery from my last outing under GCC colours, and fortified with a bit of extra protection around the leg area, I took the field led by GCC’s skipper for the day, George, who had charitably lost the toss… (no comment). The pitch prepared by Wiz and Jerry looked immaculate having been protected by our new Covers from the week’s downpours.

I’d forgotten what a noisy team GCC is particularly when we are allowed out into the field without the protection of our Skip and/or Vice Skip. I’ll have to add ear plugs to the ever increasing list of protective equipment I bring to Spring Lane next time. L&O started soundly and after a number of innovative bowling changes, (I even bowled 14 or so ‘deliveries’) they reached 164. This looked gettable although rather more than looked likely most of the innings. The imagery picks up at the tea interval…..

Mmmmm more delicious tea. But I was bit late for this Table.

When confronted with the above, you give thanks to your deity of choice that the Captain seems to have forgotten one’s polite reminders that one is an opening batsman, not a bowler of any sort, these days…..

I had to bat shortly after this and having played out a maiden, George informed we were now up to required run rate….

with GCC 8 runs short….. Anyway, an excellent game all round and back to HQ to work on where those extra 8 runs came from (Bowlers/Fielders) or didn’t come from (Batters). More (much more) to come…….
