The Brighton College Haymakers (that’s the BCH above) captained by our Skip’s brother (they’re the Staffords above) took a half-term trip up to Cambridge and arrived unbeaten at Spring Lane on Wednesday, May 27th. Could AP put one over on his southern based sibling? Things started promisingly for GCC with Messrs Morrison and Kennedy inducing a middle order collapse which had the unfortunate effect of bringing a rather promising cricketer from NSW (the one in Oz, not Near South Wells) to the wicket and rather changed the complexion of the game and TK’s bowling average.
Nonetheless, a total of 202 in 30 overs seemed eminently gettable as John (Anderson) raced to 50 in less than 7 overs as he and Phil put on 76 for the first wicket in no time at all. John graciously holed out to let others join in the fun as the rather promising cricketer from NSW turned out to be a rather fast bowler from NSW as well. This at least brought AP to the wicket for some tense overs of Stafford vs Stafford. AP and Phil steadied the good ship GCC until Phil was bowled for a well earned 45. JP then joined AP as the runs flowed and the scoreboard passed 170. Then drama struck with a vengeance: run outs were narrowly avoided at both ends, a critical ball was just below the waist and suddenly George and Ollie were at the wicket with 20 odd runs needed.
Alas it was not to be and GCC ended 12 runs short as the South coast Stafford (Richard) gained the family bragging rights for 2015.
Some action (and non-action) shots….
